My journey to creating Femmeprenista wasn’t exactly a straight line. Honestly, whose is? It’s been more of a scenic route, filled with incredible highs, a few “character-building” lows, & countless lessons that have shaped everything we do here. For years, I navigated the corporate world, working with some big names. & while I learned a huge amount, there was always that underlying sense of being a cog in someone else’s machine. I remember feeling frustrated by the limitations, the feeling of being significantly underpaid for the value I knew I was delivering, & the constant battle for genuine work-life flexibility – especially as a mother. Trying to reconcile the demands of a high-flying career with the 12-13 weeks of school holidays felt like an Olympic sport in itself!

The real catalyst for change came during my MBA at Cranfield University. I’d embarked on it, with my second daughter still a baby, thinking it would open doors to a more senior corporate role. But something unexpected happened. Immersed in strategic thinking & surrounded by brilliant minds, I had a profound realisation: even a bigger title & a fatter paycheck wouldn’t give me the autonomy, direct impact, or the quality of life I truly craved. It reconnected me with that entrepreneurial spark I’d had since selling sweets in the playground. The MBA, ironically, didn’t steer me to a better corporate job; it powerfully reaffirmed that my true path lay in building something of my own.

This was amplified by my ongoing PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship. The more I delved into the unique challenges & triumphs of women carving their own paths, the clearer the gap became. There was a desperate need for support that was holistic, culturally intelligent, & understood the *real* lives of ambitious women – especially mothers who are often spinning an incredible number of plates. I remember one afternoon, trying to finalise a crucial client email while simultaneously negotiating with my toddler who believed yoghurt was a perfectly acceptable hair product, & thinking, “There has to be a way to build a thriving business without constantly feeling like you’re one dropped ball away from total chaos.” Honestly, some days, even now, I still secretly Google, “Am I a bad mum for wanting this?!”

Femmeprenista was born from that desire – to create the empowering, strategic, & deeply supportive ecosystem I wished I’d had. A place that champions your ambition & your well-being. Even after launching, there were times I doubted if I had made the right choice. I felt pulled in all directions & questioned if I could really make a difference.
